Public Health

Chairman’s Message

The Health Cluster of COLED is a community of Medical, Public Health, Health Science, Pharmaceutical, and Healthcare Administration professionals in the diaspora with both birth and cultural ties to Liberia.

Our mission is to work with the Liberian Government and people to help address the many health challenges facing the country. This Cluster is not intended to replace, displace, or compete with the National Health System. Rather, we aim to contribute skills in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Public Health, Health Sciences, and Health Services Administration that can benefit Liberia.

This professional group is apolitical and not affiliated with any political party. We expect our membership to grow as our activities expand. Our purpose is twofold:

To keep readers informed about Cluster initiatives

To extend an open invitation for interested professionals to join us in developing practical solutions to healthcare challenges unique to Liberia

Some of the most pressing issues in Liberia’s healthcare system include chronic shortages of medical supplies, a lack of qualified personnel, and communication barriers between health providers and the general population.

Promoting public health awareness is also essential. Messages about vaccines and the importance of routine medical checkups should be central to healthcare delivery. It must also be emphasized that seeking professional medical care should never be considered a last resort. There is no contradiction between promptly taking a loved one to the hospital and later inviting a pastor or imam to pray for them—both approaches are compatible and encouraged.

We remain committed to serving the Government and people of Liberia whenever our expertise is needed. Our overarching goal is to contribute in every meaningful way possible to strengthening healthcare services across the country, from coast to coast.

Vision Statement

  • To see a Liberia where accessible, equitable, and high-quality healthcare is available to all—supported by skilled professionals and empowered communities that prioritize preventive and early care.
  • To establish a resilient healthcare system in Liberia that overcomes chronic challenges, fosters collaboration between local and global expertise, and ensures the well-being of every citizen.
  • To create a sustainable healthcare network in Liberia that integrates professional care, community engagement, and cultural understanding to promote health and improve lives nationwide.

Mission Statement

The Public Healthcare Cluster is a community of medical doctors, nurses, and public health professionals in the diaspora, united to inspire hope and make meaningful contributions to the health and well-being of the people of Liberia.

Our intent is not to replace, displace, or compete with the National Health System of Liberia, but rather to support and strengthen it—helping transform the nation’s healthcare culture to meet 21st-century challenges through technology and evidence-based practices.

As an apolitical body, we aim to share essential knowledge about disease prevention and treatment, empowering individuals to make informed healthcare decisions that improve their quality of life.

Purpose

The Health Cluster of COLED is a network of medical, public health, health science, pharmaceutical, healthcare administration, and other related professionals in the diaspora with deep ties to Liberia.

Our mission is to collaborate with the Liberian government and people to address the nation’s healthcare challenges—particularly shortages of supplies and qualified personnel. This apolitical group complements, rather than competes with, the National Health System, offering expertise in medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, public health, and healthcare administration.

We emphasize the importance of clear communication with the population about vaccinations, routine medical checkups, and the value of seeking professional care early. We affirm that medical treatment and spiritual support are fully compatible and both essential to community well-being.

Statement of Invitation

Recognizing the unique challenges within Liberia’s healthcare sector, the Cluster develops practical solutions to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

We warmly invite readers to join the Health Cluster of COLED as we expand our membership to create meaningful, lasting improvements in Liberia’s healthcare system. Together, we can contribute to a healthier, stronger future for all Liberians.
